A reminder, parents, that picture day is tomorrow. Our time for pictures is 8:45, so we get in first while we are fresh. Yahoo!
Remember to send your child's agenda and book bag back to school with them each day.
A letter and book log will be coming home on Friday to assist you.
Thanks parents and guardians!!

Open House
I wanted to remind everyone to come to our Franklin Open House on Thursday, September 13th from 6:30-7:30 PM. Check out your child's classroom, have a tour of the school, help your child complete a scavenger hunt and have some treats in the Franklin Family Resource Center. Your child will love to share their school life with you. See you there!

Welcome back to school! The beginning of a new school year is such an exciting time. We all look forward to a new year and a new set of experiences. Second grade is such a growth year. Children become more fluent readers, increase their comprehension skills and find new books and avenues of interest as they grow. In math we solidify our knowledge of basic addition and subtractions facts, learn strategies to solve more complex problems, and gain a deeper understanding of number and the patterns of mathematics. We write across the curriculum and will have a strong focus on reading and writing non fiction.
The Franklin School vegetable garden is growing like mad, and we will enjoy harvesting and eating some vegetables. Stephanie from the PEAS farm will be in to teach us some outdoor and indoor lessons about gardening and food. We will organize a field trip to see her at the PEAS farm as well - fall is a busy time at the farm! Then in late fall, we will put the garden to bed for the winter.
We have an Antarctic pen pal! Her name is Julie, and she will be making her way there in October. It is amazing that we can write to someone in such an exotic location. She will again be stationed there as a coordinator for scientific flights. What an amazing job! Flat Stanley will accompany her there as well (he fits great in an envelope or suitcase) and she will send us pictures of his adventures.
I am looking for classroom volunteers. If you are interested, please call or email me. It takes a village to educate our children.....we need your help!
Have a super second grade year!!!
